MBABANE: Nanikie Mnisi, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Education and Training is registering students studying in the Mainland China and, facing expulsion amid escalating diplomatic tension between China and the tiny southern African Kingdom ruled by King Mswati, an absolute Monarch.
But China has been warning Eswatini against violating the United Nations (UN) Resolution 2758 of 1971 that recognized the “One China Principle”, by maintaining diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
It has been disclosed that, the Eswatini Ministry of Education and Training released a Public Notice after some students studying in China contacted their parents, informing them that they might be expelled from China, as Eswatini maintains diplomatic relations with the Chinese Province, Taiwan.
“Notice is hereby given to students and relatives of students who are currently studying or preparing to go study in Mainland China, to urgently report to the Ministry of Education and Training to register their details immediately upon hearing this announcement”, reads the Public Notice in part.
Eswatini Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli declined to comment regarding this matter when this publication reached her on Saturday.
Reached for comments by this Swaziland News, Wandile Dludlu, the Deputy President of Eswatini’s main liberation movement, the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), blamed the King’s Eswatini Government for the plight of the Eswatini students studying in China.
“Unfortunately this is the painful price ordinary Emaswati are paying and will continue to pay for being led by a self-serving leadership. Until the Swazi undemocratic State come through that, it will not insult the one China policy, by flirting with a Province whilst hoping to work with the rightful Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC)”, said the PUDEMO Deputy President.
